Union files writ against Port Authority

Guam - The Guam Federation of Teachers filed a writ of mandate against the Port Authority of Guam management and board of directors. The GFT argues that the agency failed to negotiate issues in good faith such as seniority rights, union dues and length of contracts.

The GFT contends that there has been a substantial number of unsuccessful negotiation meetings due to changes in the Port's authorized negotiators. The union adds that due to the lack of cooperation from the Port, they have taken the issue to court in hopes that port management may be ordered to negotiate according to law.

The GFT also states that Port workers have suffered far too long without a contract in place and they deserve the protection and fairness in their jobs.
