After a surprising increase in the number of injuries and hospital admissions related to wearing fashionable footwear, doctors are warning women to wear high heels in moderation. It's common knowledge that women will go to great lengths for fashion, but not very many of them are aware of the possible injuries they could sustain, like sprains and broken ankles, from wearing high-heeled shoes, which can sometimes lead to permanent foot damage in the future.

High heels tend to be pointed and not only cause discomfort, but also place a strain on the feet, ankles, knees, and backs of those who wear them. However, there are certain measures women can take to ensure their health without throwing away their Manolo Blahniks.

The first step, doctors say, is to switch from wearing high heels every day to wearing them every other day, replacing them with shoes that have lower heels or flat soles. If you can't see yourself parting with your high heels, doctors also advise the use of gel insoles, which not only provide comfort, but also aid in distributing your weight evenly. Finally, daily calf exercises are also recommended for keeping your feet and legs healthy.
