You might have noticed something's in the air with that odd, grey haze seemingly surrounding the entire island. The Guam Environmental Protected Agency in conjunction with the Office of Civil Defense has issued a haze advisory for Guam after it was determined that the haze that we've been experiencing for the last day or so has been caused by dust from the Gobi Desert in China.

During springtime this dust is often picked up by winds transported across the Yellow Sea and South China Sea, eventually covering many Southeast Asian countries. While tradewinds are expected to carry the haze away from the island in the next couple of days, those with respiratory illnesses or sinus problems a precaution would be wise to stay indoors.

Persons with respiratory ailments should stay put and reduce physical exertion, and children and the elderly should seek medical advice if they start experiencing respiratory problems. It's also a good idea to avoid prolonged exposure to outdoor air and remain indoors - healthy people may experience breathing problems especially if they play sports or exercise outdoors, so those types of people may want to take it easy or exercise indoors.

Such people are also advised to stop all burning activities until things clear up, and not to hang laundry outside until the haze does subside.
