KUAM previously reported a fish consumption advisory having been issued for the Cocos Lagoon. The Guam Environmental protection agency, along with the Department of Public Health and the United States Coast Guard held a joint press conference to announce that fish tissue sampling from the lagoon showed high levels of PCBs.

A meeting will be held next week with Merizo residents during which a toxicologist from the USEPA will be present to discuss the contamination. The PCB contamination is suspected to have come from the former USCG Long-Range Navigation Station operated from 1944-1963 on Cocos Island.
