Pandemic Unemployment Assistance fraud defendant tests positive for drugs

One of seven people accused in a $1.9 million Pandemic Unemployment Assistance fraud case is facing additional scrutiny, this time for a possible drug violation
Tina Sanchez appeared before District Court Magistrate Judge Michael Bordallo after a sweat patch drug test came back positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Although two urine tests reportedly returned negative results, the U.S. probation office has requested a review of her release conditions.
Sanchez remains free under supervision, with orders to continue drug testing and undergo an assessment. A follow-up hearing is scheduled for Sept. 4.
Sanchez is one of seven defendants charged in connection to a sweeping pandemic aid fraud scheme.
The others are Frankie Rosalin, Charissa Tenorio, Winnie Jo Santos, Matthew Topasna, Kathleen Peredo, and Marlene Pinaula.
Together, they’re accused of filing fraudulent PUA claims totaling nearly $1.9 million, $492,000 of which they allegedly pocketed, at the height of the COVID-19 crisis.
