Road Safety Reminder for the Week

Blind Spots
Every vehicle has blind spots. These are areas around the vehicle that a driver cannot see when looking straight ahead or using the mirrors. For most vehicles, the blind spots are at the sides, slightly behind the driver.

To check your blind spots, look over your right and left shoulders out of your side windows. Only turn your head when you look. Do not turn your whole body or steering wheel. Check your blind spots before you:

  • Change lanes
  • Turn at an intersection
  • Merge with traffic
  • Back up
  • Leave a parking space
  • Parallel park
  • Pull out from the curb
  • Open your car door

Guam Construction Update

 

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously through the construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs, and carefully heed flaggers (when present). Alternate routes and/or adjusting drive times when feasible are encouraged.

 

Islandwide Safety Improvements on Primary Roads (Striping and Markings) TO-2:
Route 1 from Route 6 (Adelup) to Alupang Towers – Hagåtña
Pavement striping and marking activities will continue along Route 1, from Route 8 to Alupang Beach Tower. Work hours will be from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Intermittent lane closures in both directions are expected during work hours. Motorists are advised to plan accordingly and proceed with caution.

No construction activities are scheduled for Saturday, August 9, and Sunday, August 10, 2025.

 

Route 4 Paving – Malesso'
The DPW HMC crew will be preparing Route 4 for paving between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Paving is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, 8/6/25 and Thursday, 8/7/25. The DPW asks motorists to please proceed with caution and remain alert for traffic control signs and work crews.

 

Route 4 Vegetation Maintenance – Chalan Pago-Ordot
The DPW HMC crew will be maintaining vegetation along Route 4 in Chalan Pago-Ordot working towards Yoña between. The DPW asks motorists to please proceed with caution and remain alert for traffic control signs and work crews.

 

Islandwide Grass Cutting Maintenance Project
The DPW contractor will continue grass cutting at the following locations between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, weather permitting:

  • Saturday, 8/2/25: Route 6 (Asan-Maina/Piti) & Route 7 (Agana Heights)
  • Monday, 8/4/25 - Tuesday, 8/5/25: Route 16 (Barrigada/Harmon) & Route 8 (Barrigada/MTM)
  • Tuesday, 8/5/25 - Wednesday, 8/6/25: Route 17 (Cross Island Road)
  • Wednesday, 8/6/25: Route 10 (Barrigada/Mangilao)
  • Thursday, 8/7/25 - Monday, 8/11/25: Route 1 (Marine Corps Dr)

The DPW asks motorists to please proceed with caution and remain alert for traffic control signs and work crews.
