A Mangilao woman’s terrifying encounter outside her apartment last December has led to a guilty verdict in Superior Court.

A jury has convicted 35-year-old Ken Christopher Arriola Jubinal for a brazen armed carjacking near the Lucky Town apartments.

Prosecutors say Jubinal jumped from behind bushes, pointed what appeared to be a gun, and stole the woman’s car, only to be caught days later still holding the key fob.

Jubinal, who has a prior conviction for family violence, was found guilty of robbery and motor vehicle theft, both second-degree felonies.

After a weeklong trial and more than seven hours of deliberation, the Attorney General’s Office is now asking the court for the maximum penalty: 15 years behind bars.

Attorney General Douglas Moylan thanked the trial team and Superior court Judge Vernon Perez for their work on the case, calling it a win for justice and victim safety.
