Interns from the Governor’s Summer Youth Employment Program wrapped up another season of giving back to the island, organizing a successful donation drive to support youth in need and planting hundreds of native trees to help protect Guam’s environment.

This year, GSYEP interns came together to collect an estimated $20,000 worth of much-needed items, including bedding, new clothing, personal hygiene products, school supplies, and other essential items.

These donations will help local organizations support young people as they prepare for the new school year.

In addition to the donation drive, interns also got their hands dirty by planting trees at the As Gadao Reforestation Site in Malesso’. This hands-on project helps reduce soil erosion, restore native habitats, and support the island’s long-term conservation efforts.

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero praised the interns’ efforts, stating, “Our youth have once again shown what it means to care for each other and our island. Their leadership and compassion give us hope for Guam’s future.”

Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio also recognized the interns’ dedication, adding, “Beyond gaining work experience, these students have made a real difference. They’ve proven that young people can lead the way in serving our community and protecting our environment.”

Over 800 students from across Guam participated in the GSYEP this summer, working in various government agencies and completing special service projects that positively impacted the community.
