Acting Governor Tenorio to break ground on Hagåtña Pool renovation this Thursday

Acting Governor Josh Tenorio will lead a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, July 3 at 9:30 a.m. to kick off the long-overdue renovation of the Hagåtña Pool, one of the island’s most well-loved community spaces.
“Built in the 1970s, the pool has served generations of families, student athletes, and summer youth programs. This pool has always been more than just a place to swim, but it’s where our kids trained, where families gathered, and where memories were made,” said Tenorio. “We’ve heard the calls to bring it back, and now we’re making it happen.”
The renovation will include major structural fixes, a modern filtration system, ADA upgrades, energy-efficient features, refreshed bathhouses, and new landscaping. The project has been awarded to contractor BME & Sons, Inc., and will cost $8.8 million, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act and the Economic Development Administration.
“Once complete, the pool will once again be open to the public and ready to welcome back our athletes, families, and programs that have been without a home for too long,” added Tenorio. “This is about giving our people a space they’ve been missing. It’s about restoring a part of our everyday lives for our community and our swim teams alike.”
The public are welcome to attend the ceremony.
