The University of Guam Center for Island Sustainability and Sea Grant has officially launched the second cohort of its Community Backyard Aquaponics Systems program, aiming to grow food security one backyard at a time.

Following the success of its first group, the program will provide 40 more aquaponics systems to qualified residents across the island, each valued at $3,500 and distributed at no cost thanks to support from the Office of the Governor.

Participants will receive hands-on training and support in aquaponics—an eco-friendly farming method that combines fish farming and soil-less plant growth. The system conserves water and offers a reliable source of fresh produce and protein.

“The expansion of this program is a big step forward for food sustainability in our communities,” said UOG Sea Grant Director Dr. Austin Shelton.

The deadline to apply is July 7. More details and applications are available at uog.edu/seagrant.
