The Guam Department of Education’s Division of Special Education has been selected as one of just 12 jurisdictions across the U.S. to attend a prestigious in-person workshop hosted by the Data Center for Addressing Significant Disproportionality, or DCASD.

Set for this September in Rockville, Maryland, the event will bring together education leaders focused on building more equitable and inclusive special education systems.

Guam has also been chosen to preview a new Articulate Learning Module titled “Introduction to Disproportionality,” which dives into racial and ethnic disparities in special education identification, placement, and discipline.

“This national recognition highlights Guam’s ongoing commitment to equity and data-driven decision-making,” said Assistant Superintendent Tom Babauta.

The workshop is fully funded by DCASD and supported by OSEP, which provides vital technical assistance to improve outcomes for students with disabilities. Guam’s participation places it at the forefront of efforts to transform special education systems across the nation.
