A former Guam public school teacher accused of sexually abusing four children is one step closer to sentencing.

Miles R. Washington appeared in court Tuesday, where attorneys confirmed a formal plea agreement had been reached.

Washington faces multiple felony charges of first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The accusations span years and involve four young victims, with the first reports surfacing in 2018. Despite the charges, Washington remained employed with the Guam Department of Education, most recently in a non-teaching role, until he began the process of leaving the agency just this week.

The education board is now calling for a full policy review to find out how Washington was allowed to remain in the school system for years after the initial allegations.

Washington is due back in court on July 10, when the plea agreement is expected to be finalized.

If convicted at trial, he could have faced life in prison.
