Naval Academy grad gets emotional first salute from dad (who she outranks)

We previously showed you the proud parents of the exceptional high school graduates that were nominated to the US service academies, and now there's a super-touching moment from another one of our island's best.
Jewel Maigue, an Ipan native and 2021 alum of Guam High, received her commission after graduating from the Naval Academy. And the highlight of the ceremony was her dad, Master Chief Jeff Maigue - who technically and very happily is outranked by his daughter – giving her the very first salute she received as an officer.
Now an ensign, Jewel is assigned close to her island home aboard a destroyer out of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. She's also the daughter of longtime Guam journalist Valerie Maigue, and granddaughter of Romeo and Bella Marquez of NCS, Dededo and Cesar and Lerida Maigue of San Diego.
Congrats, Jewel, and thank you for your service!
