The Public Utilities Commission will be holding a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Oka building in Tamuning on proposed rate adjustments for trash collection services that will impact your monthly bill.

The Guam Solid Waste Authority wants to increase residential collections by $5, from $30 a month to $35 by Oct. 1, or the upcoming fiscal year.

Residential transfer station rates will also see a significant increase from $7.50 to $11.55 minimum for a truck load, $23.10 half cab and $34.65 above cab.

The commercial rate will also increase from $171.60 per ton to $190 per ton.

GSWA is seeking these rate increases to fund ongoing programs and address key priorities over the next three years.

These priorities include meeting regulations, covering costs for the Ordot post-closure case, closing and developing laying landfill cells, managing debt, and replacing equipment.

GSWA believes these rate adjustments are reasonable and essential for environmentally safe operations.

There will be more opportunities for the community to provide their input.

Additional public hearings are set for Wednesday 6:30 p.m. at the Asan-Maina Mayor’s office and on Thursday 6:30 p.m. at the Dededo Senior Citizen’s Center.
