A man convicted in connection with the death of his one-year-old son will wait a little longer to learn his fate.

On Thursday, Superior Court Judge Vernon Perez postponed the sentencing for Paul John Tuncap Cruz to September. Cruz was found guilty in April of child abuse as a third-degree felony, charges tied to the death of his son, Pablo, in late 2023.

The delay comes at the request of Cruz’s attorney who noted that Cruz needed to square away matters with his children.

Cruz’s wife, Giltinan Ramangmou, is already serving time and was convicted of negligent homicide and child abuse in December.

Prosecutors argue Cruz didn’t physically harm the child but failed to get medical help after his wife assaulted the boy, leading to fatal injuries.

As the legal process stretches on, Judge Perez reminded Cruz to stay focused and keep meeting his court obligations with sentencing now set for Sept. 8.
