Congresswoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds extended her congratulations to President-elect Lee Jae-myung on being elected as the Republic of Korea’s 14th President.

“I applaud President-elect Lee on the incredible mandate he has received from the people of South Korea,” said Congresswoman King-Hinds. “The Northern Marianas share a unique and historic relationship with the Korean people, dating back over a century. As a person of partial Korean descent, I celebrate the deep and enduring ties between our islands and the people of Korea. Today, tourism from South Korea continues to be the Northern Marianas’ top source market—bringing friendship, culture, and opportunity to our shores. We look forward to a continued partnership and shared future, and wish President-elect Lee the very best as he takes office.”

President-elect Lee takes office at a time of political turmoil in the Republic of Korea, following the ousting of President Yoon Suk-yeol, who was impeached and removed after declaring martial law late last year.

Congresswoman King-Hinds remains committed to deepening the longstanding relationship between the CNMI and the Republic of Korea.
