A $20,000 athletic mat donation to Okkodo High School was formalized through a partnership between the Marianas Open Jiu-Jitsu Federation and the Office of the acting Governor.

The ceremonial turnover was held at Okkodo’s gymnasium and included acting Governor Josh Tenorio, Federation President Steve Shimizu, school faculty, and student athletes.

The new 50-by-50 foot competition-grade mats will support programs like jiu-jitsu, wrestling, and other mat-based sports, enhancing training safety and performance.

Shimizu called the donation an investment in youth potential and a symbol of commitment to student excellence both on and off the mat.

The event highlighted the power of public-private collaboration to advance youth development and athletic opportunities in Guam's public schools.
