‘We are making our voices heard’: Governor and Congressman speak on federal cuts

With potential federal funding cuts now becoming increasingly imminent, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero continues to sound the alarm.
Since January, the Governor has raised concerns over proposed cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and social security under President Trump and the republican-led Congress.
“There’s been a perception out there that nothing has been done from the administration or executive branch in lieu of planning for what we will do as a government to try to address some of these challenges of the actions of the White House, but that is just far from the truth. As I issued in our press release, there’s been since January work that has been done in collaboration with all the governors of all the 50 states and territories, collaboration with DOI, the white house and also the congressman,” said Leon Guerrero.
The Governor urged lawmakers to preserve the business privilege tax, saying it’s essential for funding critical services at risk under Trump's discretionary budget proposal.
She also called on Delegate James Moylan to leverage his influence in Congress, stating “Guam is counting on you.”
“I am in communication with the governor, the administration and especially our senators back home in Guam since they are the committee chairs of different agencies looking out for what we need to continue. We know we are not like the states, we don’t have this funding to absorb those types of cuts. So we are raising our hands. We are making our voices heard. How we do this is to submit documents to the different channels but we also go before the different committees,” said Moylan.
We’ll have more with the congressman on what’s happening nationally with a massive reconciliation bill and its impacts to Medicaid on Monday.
