The Guam Power Authority confirmed the Aggreko generators are now in operation and integrated into the Island Wide Power System.

GPA officials said the agreement with the company includes the 20MW power package being commissioned for 24 months, featuring high-efficiency, ultra-low emission generators, adding this is a significant development in planned mid-term solutions to address Guam’s power shortfall.

Aggreko’s management John Wilson, Area Manager – North Asia, and George Whyte, Managing Director of Aggreko, recently met with GPA management and onsite teams who are providing support and assurance that commissioning was close at hand since contracted in April.

Aggreko initiated generator performance testing and conducted internal and load testing, clearing a portion of the units over several days.

On Thursday, the 20MW were dispatched into the grid demonstrating the temporary power facility was cleared for full load.

“Aggreko has a long history with Guam Power Authority and understood the importance of the local government’s request to deliver safely and on time within 100 days. We appreciate the support of the teams on the ground who helped accelerate the rapid deployment of 20MW of power to meet all of the energy demand and minimize the risk of shortages across the country. We have used our latest technology, which includes highly efficient products which burn cleaner/less fuel and reduce emissions,” said George Whyte, Managing Director of Aggreko.

"The successful implementation of this project with our partners at Aggreko is another successful step in our strategy to maintain an uninterrupted power supply for Guam. The addition of 20MW to our grid allows our teams to provide needed maintenance for generators that have been operating at capacity for the past year. It provides much-needed relief as we continue to work towards the long-term solution of bringing the Ukudu Power Plant online by September 15, 2025, with testing starting early as next year,” said GPA General Manager, John M. Benavente.

GPA and Aggreko are working collaboratively on the integration of these generators into the Island Wide Power System what officials said is a proactive and effective solution to address Guam's energy capacity challenges
