Human skeletal remains found in Marpi cave on Saipan
On Sunday, the hikers found human skeletal remains inside a cave by Banzai Cliff in the Marpi area on Saipan.
The remains were found next to artifacts that are believed to be from World War II.
"A member of the Historic Preservation Office came by and determined that the bones that were found are not World War II bones. They are less than 20 years old, less than 20 years [old] bones that were discovered. Currently, right now, CIB personnel are on the scene conducting an investigation to determine the origin and what is the matter of the crime that happened there," said Anthony Macaranas, Comissioner of CNMI Department of Public Safety.
