Guam is asking the federal government for more time to provide input on the proposed missile defense flight tests.

Acting Governor Josh Tenorio sent a letter to Lieutenant General Heath Collins of the Missile Defense Agency.

The administration asked for a 60-day extension for the people of Guam to comment on the environmental assessment/overseas environmental assessment.

Tenorio underscored his greatest concern about any impacts on land owners, including the possibility of the need to evacuate their properties around Andersen Air Force Base during testing.

The Pacific Center for Island Security endorsed the request stating it needs a wider community discussion.

Currently, the comment period is set to expire on July 2.
