Three teens are now being held at the Department of Youth Affairs for their alleged involvement in a crime spree. Investigators say they targeted residents and schools in Hagat and Santa Rita. KUAM brought you story earlier this week after those teens were caught on camera slashing tires in those villages.

Now, residents hope their arrests serve as a lesson for youngsters as the summer break gets going.

Three children ages 13 to 15 are now spending the start of summer break locked-up. "It was the people of Guam who went out there to try to stop this unnecessary action of these teenagers," expressed Santa Rita resident Ignacio Quinata. He echoes the relief his neighborhood is feeling after Guam Police caught their suspects.

"First of all," he told KUAM News, "I love the teamwork from the students, parents, friends and family who got together to fight this crime."

As KUAM reported, about a handful of children were seen of video surveillance walking at night in the Santa Rita-Sumai area slashing the tires of parked cars.

The crime spree targeting residents in Hagat as well with at least 20 incidents reported.

Police say, in total, five teens were taken in for questioning.

Three of them allegedly admitted to the tire slashings along with burglaries reported at Marcial Sablan Elementary, Oceanview Middle School and Southern High School.

Investigators even connecting them to a reported trespassing and property damage complaint at Mt. Carmel Charter School.

"The buck doesn’t stop here. We need to continue to protect Guam and the culture and the vulnerable people," Quinata continued.

Quinata thanks police for quickly solving this case, saying, "Hopefully the law will prevail. Hopefully these students will learn a lesson that hey I know it’s early for them but they can stop this and they can change. I hope this can be an eye opener for the rest of the kids on Guam to stop vandalizing Guam’s beautiful culture from spray painting, slashing tires, stealing vehicles, running in and pulling beers from stores without paying for it."

The three teens are now at DYA, arrested for committing crimes against the community including burglary, theft of property, graffiti, violating curfew laws, beyond control and criminal mischief.
