Former Guam Visitors Bureau director fighting to get his job back
A former director at the Guam Visitors Bureau is fighting for his job back before the Civil Service Commission after alleged he was wrongfully fired from his role at the agency.
Nico Fujikawa was GVB’s Director of Tourism Research and Strategic Planning until April of this year.
The appeal alleged GVB General Manager Carl Gutierrez engaged in “egregious behavior” and mentions discriminatory, retaliatory, and harassing conduct by GVB.
It also accused GVB management of official misconduct, retaliation, harassment, and intimidation for sending a uniformed Guam Police Department officer to serve Fujikawa with the final notice of adverse action.
It also alleged that Fujikawa was wrongfully terminated due to political patronage.
However, in a letter from GVB’s Carl Gutierrez to Fujikawa, he accuses Fujikawa of openly hostile behavior and using insulting or abusive language towards him and GVB Deputy General Manager Gerry Perez.
He also contended Fujikawa set a poor example for other employees by displaying open hostility, defiance, and disrespect towards him in front of others.
