A total of 17 beaches in Guam was confirmed to be polluted above the accepted bacteriological standards to include two popular beaches in Tumon.

The Guam Environmental Protection Agency collected 43 samples on May 8.

Officials said swimming, fishing or playing in unsafe waters may result in minor illnesses such as sore throats or diarrhea.
