Discussions to enhance safety in our region was discussed during a U.S. House Rules Committee hearing held in the nation's capital today. Congressman James Moylan submitting several amendments to H.R. 8036, the Indo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriation Act of 2024.

On Wednesday, Speaker Mike Johnson announced the introduction of four supplemental appropriation measures aimed at providing additional funding for priorities in the Indo-Pacific, Ukraine, Israel, and the border and provided member offices the opportunity to submit amendments.

Among the delegates amendments include just over one billion for Guam’s missile defense system, $100 million for Typhoon Mawar reconstruction for defense, more than $15 million for the Guam National Guard. And $600 million for the repair of the Guam glass breakwater.

"This breakwater is one storm away from being destroyed, which would not only haul commercial shipping to Guam but bottle up the five fast attack submarines based in Guam. I encourage my collegues to support this amendment for the sake of not only my constituents but for the sake of the submarine forces in the Western Pacific", Moylan said.

The committee will vote late tonight to determine which of the hundreds of submitted amendments shall be advanced for a vote on the floor on Saturday afternoon.
