High fire danger for Guam leading into Easter Sunday
The weather has been a bit awkward lately, with conditions being hot and dry and then rainy and overcast from one day to the next. But the experts are predicting with a high likelihood of extreme fire threat heading into Easter Sunday.
Landon Aydlett with the National Weather Service says blustery winds and dry grass pack dangerous potential that could escalate into a very serious situation this weekend. He told KUAM News, "We're looking at some possibilities of extreme fire conditions for Guam, and that's the first time we've seen that in several years. It's been a wetter season for the last few years, but this year it's drier. And so we could be crossing some thresholds this weekend, especially as the winds increase. So we really want to get the word out about the high fire danger for the island for this holiday weekend."
The fire weather watch starts tomorrow and lasts through next Monday. Please don't burn outdoors this weekend, as humidity could be as high as 60% with possible wind gusts possibly hitting 40MPH.
