Government of Guam employees will get the off work after Thanksgiving this year.

Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero signed an executive ordered declaring Nov. 24, 2023 a holiday for GovGuam workers.

The EO mentions the resiliency of the island which was hit by Typhoon Mawar, while recovering from the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“During this season of gratitude, we extend our thanks, as a community to all who have helped uplift our families and our island through these difficult times,” said Leon Guerrero in the EO. “We also remember hte less fortunate members of our community, especially those whose lives continue ot eb disrupted by these recent calamities. May the spirit of compassion and unity inspire those of us who are able ot help carry our neighbors through these dark days.”

The governor signed the order declaring the day after Thanksgiving a government holiday on Veterans Day.

“As celebrate Veterans Day, we also recognize our service members, who inspire us every day with their example of devotion and sacrifice, and the honor with which they serve,” she said. “We affirm our commitment to our veterans, whose service and sacrifice we can never match, but must continually strive to.”
