Shoppers at the Home Depot in Tamuning were getting storm-ready in the final hours before Tropical Storm Bolaven approaches the region.

After what happened during Typhoon Mawar, residents Travis Story of Yigo have taken steps to prepare.

“I feel pretty prepared. We put up our shutters, and now I’m just doing a little extra shopping," he said. “Filling up was the biggest thing I’d say, I was prepared for Mawar, but i’m a little more prepared for this one–also stocking up more on food and water.”

Some residents weren’t even worried about the upcoming storm like Mangilao resident, John Horeg.

“I have a concrete house so, I think it’s safe—we have water, we have a lot of batteries from the previous storm, and we also have generators, so we’re not worried at all," he said.

It’s not just the public taking in more preparations.

Home Depot assistant manager Gerald Paulino says their store was able to provide much-needed storm supplies.

“We got stocked up because before the storm even hit, already, they already filled up containers with things we’re gonna need for the storm–unfortunately, being on the island of guam, it takes weeks to come here compared to being stateside," he said. "All the backstock that came was supposed to be measures for mawar, but, like I said, thank goodness we have it in the store for this unpredicted storm. We’re putting everything in the customer's faces so it’s easy for them to come in and get what they need and rotate with customers coming out of the store so it doesn’t get too crowded.”

It's supplies that are flying off the shelves fast.

“We are going to run out of generators today-extension chords as well we had a lot of wood that just came in from the previous storm, Mawar–so preparation, we have wood, but eventually, we are going to run out. After that, we do have a vast amount of cleaning supplies to clean up the island," Paulino said.

He added they are ready to help for as long as safely possible.

“The biggest thing we can do is stay open for our public– for cleaning needs, anti-flooding, anything else… like what we need, they’re going to need too–like trash bags, clean up supplies, cleaning tools, pretty much just to prepare, and post-storm–help clean up,” he said.
