The U.S. Department of Education Grants and Risk Management Division was on island to assess if the Guam Department of Education has made enough improvements to reconsider its high-risk status.

This request for reassessment was made by GDOE back in 2018—with the federal agency issuing GDOE a reconsideration evaluation plan.

Since then, GDOE says it has made significant progress in addressing the requirements of the rep and has been on probation starting from April this year.

The USDOE division will re-examine if GDOE could manage its finances without outside help, otherwise known as a third-party fiduciary agent.

The outcome of this evaluation will decide if there will be changes to GDOE’s specific conditions and high-risk designation. KUAM will continue to update this crucial assessment as more details become available.
