A man and woman are killed in a serious car crash early Saturday.

It happened at 2:30 am along Route 1 Marine Corps Drive in East Agana.

Officers with the Guam Police Department learned the driver of a beige 2007 Nissan Altima was headed southbound on the inner lane when he lost control and crashed into a pair of coconut trees near the beach.

The impact of the crash was so severe that the car wrapped around the tree.

Police said the driver and passenger were rushed to the hospital but died from their injuries.

Highway patrol investigators have yet to determine if speed, alcohol, or drugs were factors in the crash.

This brings the total number of traffic related deaths this year in Guam to 21.
