Julianne Hernandez

Julianne Hernandez worked in the news business for a combined three years before she joined the KUAM News team full time.
She has experience in both print and broadcast media.
Her desire to become a journalist goes back to her childhood years when she was inspired and wanted to emulate one of her favorite comic book characters, Lois Lane.
Julianne is no stranger to the KUAM newsroom.
She was first introduced to the news world in 2016 working as a news and radio intern.
Julianne graduated from the University of Guam that same year where she received her BA in Communications in Mass Media with double minors in Sociology and Women & Gender Studies.
Being involved in the Community Work Experience Program (CWEP), Julianne also volunteered her time and eventually became a regular staff member at the non-profit organization, Island Girl Power for over two years.
She went on to work in the tourism industry in luxury retail at DFS T Galleria from 2018 to 2020 before going back into the news business.
Julianne returned to broadcast media with the Pacific News Center where she covered the education beat. Her journey quickly led her over to print media with the Pacific Daily News where she covered education, courts, public safety and crime.
She returned to KUAM in Feb. 2023 where she covers crime, justice, and local news stories important to the community.
Julianne is passionate and feels a sense of duty about the stories she covers.
She follows this quote from Lois Lane, “I’m a journalist. Everything I write reaches millions of people! I have a responsibility to those people! There’s far too much injustice to be ignored any longer.”
Julianne is also a mother of two who enjoys spending time with her children, family, and friends.
Among her hobbies: binge-watching a variety of TV shows and movies, reading, and running and volunteering – when she has the time.
Additionally, Julianne describes herself as a self-proclaimed geek, who enjoys going to conventions, dressing up, and collecting things from comics, pop culture-related and anime merchandise.
