Matsuki Hirayama is a budding journalist who joined KUAM news team in Sept. 2022.

Before she got her start in the broadcasting journalism industry, Matsuki was a substitute teacher at St. John’s School and was studying to be an English teacher.

Being an educator runs in her family.

So, Matsuki took her passion for writing and jumped at the opportunity to make a different kind of impact in the community she calls home.

She currently covers the environment, culture and health beats. Matsuki is also a co-host for the KUAM monthly special, LFG: Love for Guam and the KUAM News Weekend Edition anchor.

Among the most memorable stories she has covered in the past few months include the efforts to save endangered birds endemic to Guam from extinction, like the Ko’ko’ and Sihek.

When she’s not news gathering, Matsuki enjoys spending time with loved ones, finding a new anime or Korean drama to binge, and getting lost in a good book.
