Caught on camera -- just after 6:30 p.m., March 17, a man was captured climbing over a concrete wall, trespassing onto a Dededo property on Salisbury Street.

Captured in the footage, the man takes a look around the outside of the home - holding what appears to be a large knife.

Suddenly, the burglar is seen picking up a black bag and taking off with it, hopping over the front gate.

Homeowner Carl Pacheco, his wife and his 5-year-old son were not in the main home at the time.

But he confirms his elderly parents were inside the home's extension.

"They were sleeping and when they woke up, they found the screen doors open after that, you know, we didn't think much of it but my wife and I checked the cameras because I noticed a few things were missing," Pacheco told KUAM News. "Yeah, my father was sleeping on the couch and the door was wide open. So, you know, fortunately enough, he didn't hurt my dad.

A little bit after that. My dad walks out. So you know, it's actually good that they didn't make any contact. So yeah, it was only five to 10 minutes. And then you can see my dad walking around looking as if somebody's been in, because he's wondering why the screen doors were open."

The thief got away with the bag that contained his work laptop, Airpods and about $1,000 in cash.

Despite having the footage as evidence, he says Guam Police Department officers told him there was not much more they could do with the blurry image of the suspect's face.

For now, Pacheco said the thief did more than just take away his personal belongings, he took away his family’s sense of security.

"I'm upset. I usually trust a lot of people," he said. "I'm very open. And just having our, I guess, boundary destroyed, you know, and it ruins the reputation of the neighborhood. My wife, she doesn't want to stay in the house anymore because, or even in the village anymore since you know, this was actually the third time we've been burglarized. And since then, it's been escalating."

Since the incident, he and his family bought more deadbolt locks, indoor cameras installing motion sensors, floodlights, and alarm systems.
