GPA asking customers to conserve power while Cabras 2 goes offline for maintenance
Maintenance has begun for the Cabras 2 unit, one of Guam's oldest and largest baseload generators. And while the Guam Power Authority doesn't anticipate service interruptions, they are asking customers to conserve energy when possible, particularly during peak hours from 6 to 9 p.m.
The maintenance will include a major overhaul of the generator replacing different parts and inspection of the turbine generator.
Cabras 2 is expected to remain offline until Feb. 14. The total cost for the maintenance and repairs is about $5 million.
