There will be a battle for the CNMI Senate presidency.  KUAM News has confirmed that Sen. Edith Deleon Guerrero will be seeking that seat while fellow Democrat Senator-Elect Celina Babauta has also expressed her interest in the role. Independents and Democrats will make the new majority next year with a five member coalition out of the 9 Senate seats.

When asked, about her seniority status in the Senate and whether she thought that should play a role in the decision making, Sen. Deleon Guerrero said, "Absolutely. Years back there has always been the gentleman's agreement and obviously this incoming legislature is Saipan's term to become, to take the Senate presidency so there is that level of respect and we just have to respect that."

And for the first time in CNMI history, all three Senators representing Saipan are women.
