Road Safety Reminder for the Week

 

Persons Who Present Dangers to Drivers
Increase your following distance and allow a bigger space for drivers who may be potentially dangerous. Persons who present dangers are:

  • Drivers who cannot see you because their view is blocked by buildings, trees, or other cars
  • Drivers backing out of driveways or parking spaces
  • Drivers who pass you when there is a curve or oncoming vehicle(s) ahead
  • Drivers about to be forced into your lane to avoid a vehicle, pedestrian, bicyclist, obstruction, or because of fewer lanes ahead
  • Pedestrians with umbrellas in front of their faces or hats pulled down over their eyes
  • Distracted people, such as:
    • Delivery persons
    • Construction workers
    • Distracted pedestrians, such as those talking or texting on their electronic wireless communications device
    • Children, who often run into the street without looking
    • Drivers talking or texting on their electronic wireless communications device or speaking to their passengers
    • Drivers taking care of children, eating, or looking at maps while driving
  • Confused people, such as:
    • Tourists, often at complicated intersections
    • Drivers who are looking for a house number or slow down for no apparent reason

Guam Construction Update

 

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously through the construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs, and carefully heed flaggers (when present). Alternate routes and/or adjusting drive times when feasible are encouraged.

 

Route 30 at Trankilo St – Tamuning
The center lane of Route 30 at Trankilo St. remains closed due to excavation. The northbound inner lane near the excavation site will be closed when work crews are present. The DPW asks motorists to please proceed with caution and remain alert for traffic control signs and work crews.

 

Route 1 Resurfacing from Route 30 to Route 10A – Tamuning
From 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday, 4/18/22 to Friday, 4/22/22, motorists are advised there will be lane shifts and intermittent lane closures on Route 1 for southbound and northbound traffic near Route 10A (Airport Road).

From 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM Saturday, 4/23/22 to Sunday, 4/24/22, there will be lane shifts and intermittent lane closures on Route 1 for the southbound lanes from Route 10A (Airport Road) to Route 14B (Ypao Road).

From 5:00 PM Sunday, 4/24/22 to 6:00 AM Monday, 4/25/22, all southbound lanes will be closed at the Route 1 and Route 10A (Airport Road) Intersection. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Route 14A (JFK Hill) and Route 14B (Ypao Road) may be used as alternate routes.

 

Route 4 Striping and Marking – Route 1 to Route 10
From 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM on Monday, 4/18/22, through Friday, 4/22/22, the DPW contractor will continue to restripe and place raised pavement markers along Route 4, between Route 15 (Mai Mai Road) and Route 10, weather permitting. This work will require limited lane shifts and closures of the center lane, northbound inner and southbound inner lanes. Motorists’ cooperation in following the posted signs is greatly appreciated.

 

Route 28 Rehabilitation from Route 1 to Bumuchachu Street – Dededo
Motorists are advised that there will be lane shifts and intermittent lane closures along Route 28 between West Santa Barbara Avenue and Catalina Lane from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM Monday, 4/18/22 – Friday, 4/22/22.

 

Flood Mitigation at Chalan Pugua Matchena – Machanao, Dededo
The infiltration trenches along Chalan Pugua Matchena have been completed. The pavement in the areas affected by the trenches will be restored at a date yet to be determined.

Islandwide Village Streets Pavement Resurfacing – Talofofo
From 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM Thursday, 4/21/22 – Friday, 4/22/22, residents and motorists are advised of intermittent lane closures at N. San Miguel St. as contractors continue to mill and pave, weather permitting.
