Earlier in the day, senators gathered for the state funeral of former senator Michael J. Reidy. Reidy was a Peace Corps volunteer who relocated to Guam in 1974 and began a long public service career.

He was a planner with the Department of Public Works. He became a special assistant for policy and program development under former Governor Paul Calvo.

He served as an executive assistant to former Speaker Tommy Tanaka. He served as the director of the Bureau of Budget under former Governor Joe Ada. And won a seat in the legislature.

Legislative secretary Senator Amanda Shelton announced, "The late honorable Michael J. Reidy's dedicated service to the people of Guam while serving as a member of the 21st Guam legislature was his greatest professional achievement. And he had also volunteered his time serving as a mediator with inafa'maolek, as a volunteer with the Guam Boy Scouts, and as a teacher at the Guam community college."

Family and friends of former Senator Reidy were on hand for the ceremony. He passed away on March 30 in Maryland at the age of 75.
