Owner spotted his stolen truck on the road, Michael Salas arrested

Despite a different license plate on it, a man was able to spot his missing truck on the road leading to the arrest of 36-year-old Michael Joseph Salas.
The man reported his Nissan pickup missing on July 10 and on July 19, he was driving on north on Marine Corps Drive in Yigo when he saw the pickup headed south, according to court documents. The man was able to identify his pickup because of the distinct grille on the front and altered lights.
When police located Salas, he said he had just purchased the pickup from a friend and didn't have the paperwork yet, court documents state.
He denied knowing the truck was stolen and said he didn't get a license plate when he bought it. Sablan said he then placed a "found" license plate on the truck before driving it. Police then noticed the truck's vehicle identification number wasn't permanently affixed to the vehicle.
Salas was charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Altering or Replacing a Vehicle Identification Number, Fraudulently Displaying a License Plate, Possessing or Receiving a Vehicle with Altered or removed Vehicle Identification Number.
