The CNMI Governor’s office announced Saturday night that there are two confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Saipan. Dr. John Tudela says the two patients are a 42-year-old male and 49-year-old female. Both cases are linked to travel into Saipan. Dr. Tudela said one traveled to Saipan from Guam on March 12th. The other traveled to Tinian on March 13th and returned to Saipan on March 14th. Both individuals began showing symptoms on March 17th. The two went to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation on March 25th and 26th. Both cases were determined to meet the Centers for Disease Control’s PUI (Persons Under Investigation) criteria. Samples were taken on March 27th and sent to Guam. Dr. Tudela says today they received the positive results from the Guam Department of Public Health. The two individuals are currently being quarantined at Kanoa Resort and contract tracing has begun. Health officials are currently contacting close family members and members of a faith based organization.
