Moylan: without MOU, governor's war claims timeline gives 'false hope'
One of the lawmakers who voted against the passage of the local war claims payout Bill 181, Sen. James Moylan, cautions the governor not to place a timeline of when the island's war survivors will be receiving their checks.
When she signed the bill into law last week, the governor said the goal is to have the first check cut by the end of the month. Sen. Moylan said without a Memorandum of Understanding finalized with the U.S. Treasury making such declarations about when claims will be paid is essentially providing a false hope to war survivors.
Sen. Moylan calling them "smoke and mirror" assumptions. The governor last week said she expects the MOU to be finalized this week.
