DOC gets extension for vice speaker's FOIA
The clock is ticking to spend funding for a prison master plan and it turns out Department of Corrections Director Samantha Brennan did meet the deadline to respond to a Freedom of Information Act Request after all.
Vice Speaker Telena Nelson's office erroneously told KUAM that Tuesday was the deadline. Staff, now say today is the deadline and that Brennan filed for a 10 day extension. Nelson, who also is the vice-chair on the Committee on Public Safety, requested several documents from DOC that falls in line with coming up with a master plan to upgrade the facility.
Three years ago DOC was awarded a federal grant for the master plan, but the agency has yet to hire a vendor to conduct one. The grant expires on Sept. 30.
