DOI assistant secretary meets with Guam lawmakers

Department of Interior Assistant Secretary of the Office of Insular Affairs Doug Domenech is on Guam and met with lawmakers today.


Speaker Tina Muna Barnes says Domenech informed senators that the Trump administration is in support of the local payout effort of war claims and is waiting for the passage of Bill 181.

The legislation was tabled during the last session after concerns were raised by Congressman Michael San Nicolas.

Also discussed with Domenech was self-determination, and how to get local government officials a seat at the table on discussions about the renegotiation of the Compacts of Free Association.
