Road Safety Reminder for the Week
The Motor Vehicle Code of Guam expressly requires that traffic in all directions must come to a complete stop when approaching a school bus that is stopped for the purpose of taking on or discharging students, WHETHER OR NOT ANY STUDENTS ARE CROSSING THE ROAD. School buses must display their red, four-way flashing signal lights as well as the Stop-arm located on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Even on multi-lane highways when the bus is on the other side of the road, you must stop until the Stop-arm is retracted and the bus resumes motion, unless the bus driver signals you to proceed.
Guam Construction Update
Motorists are advised to drive cautiously through the construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs, and carefully heed to flaggers. Alternative routes and/or adjusting drive times when feasible are encouraged.
Route 3 Widening
Construction activities are ongoing along Route 3 from just north of Route 28.
Motorists are advised of the traffic shift on Route 3 between Chalan Castro and Potts Junction from the existing roadway to the new construction.
The southbound lane at Fern Terrace is closed through mid-October. The southbound traffic has been diverted onto what are currently the southbound left turn and acceleration lanes. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously through the construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs.
Route 1 and Route 8 Resurfacing
From Monday 8/19/2019 through Sunday 8/25/2019, the DPW contractor will be installing guardrails from SK Laundry to Route 8 Mini Mart. Motorists are advised that there will be intermittent lane closures along the eastbound and westbound outer lanes from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM as construction work continues at this area. Motorists should proceed with caution and expect delays.
