Andersen AFB on lockdown after SUV crash
KUAM News has learned that police were taken on a high speed chase that ended in Yigo. Police were in pursuit of a silver SUV that crashed in Andersen Air Force Base. The search for the driver who fled on foot is underway.
Allie Serna says she saw the car drive through the base gate “and crashed his car”. Serna tells KUAM she saw a man get out and run into the woods”. She also confirms the picture KUAM received of the SUV was the same vehicle she saw crash into the jungle area.
KUAM is waiting for information from the Guam Police Department however we have confirmed with the Andersen Air Force Base Public Affairs Office that the base is on lockdown. Base officials however could not provide specific details at this time.
UPDATE: As of 10pm, lockdown lifted at AAFB “immediate threat cleared”
A press release from Andersen Air Force Base Public Affairs Office confirms a suspect fleeing the Guam Police Department attempted to enter the air base at around 7:35pm on Wednesday. “The suspect crashed his vehicle when members of the 36th Security Forces Squadron activated emergency defensive barriers. Andersen Air Force Base was placed on lockdown as a safety precaution. Security Forces and local law enforcement responded to the scene of the crash and secured the area and opened the main gate road.” As we reported the all clear was given at around 10:00pm. The Guam Police Department has not responded to our inquiries for information.
