Court rules GovGuam can foreclose on businessman's property to pay back taxes
GovGuam won a $3.7 million judgment against a businessman who failed to pay taxes from 1999 through 2002.
In a decision Tuesday, the district court authorized the government to foreclose on six properties co-owned by the defendant, Danny Leon Guerrero. The decision allows DRT to sell the land, and take Leon Guerrero's 50 percent for payment of the back taxes.
Court documents indicate that the defendant filed the returns in 2003, but Rev and Tax found that he owed significantly more than he stated in his filings. In a news release, Gov. Leon Guerrero congratulated the work of the department of revenue and taxation's tax enforcement team.
