It was a mistake…that’s the latest out of Adelup, after giving a $41,000 pay raise to Department of Military Director and, Adjutant General Esther Aguigui.

KUAM first brought you the story yesterday, and 24 hours later a press release from Adelup states it was “inadvertently processed at the Department of Administration”. The press release, received by KUAM just before news time states, that DOA received a proposal to consider the pay increase and that a draft personnel action form was submitted and inadvertently processed.

It went on to state that the pay raise was not sanctioned and was an error in the systems and processes.

KUAM obtained the official pay adjustment documents for her raise via a Freedom of Information Request. According to Adelup once the error was identified, a review was conducted and steps are now being identified to ensure the error is not repeated and adjustments are being made to ensure necessary controls are in place.

Yesterday, Adelup Communications Director Janela Carrera told KUAM that there was room in the budget for Aguigui’s raise. Today, Carrera said “ My statement regarding General Aguigui was made without accurate information.

"I take responsibility for this and apologize to the Administration for the error”.
