Guam - Government of Guam directors and elected leaders will be receiving their hay pay raises after Acting Governor Ray Tenorio signed Bill 1-8s into law. The legislation was passed by a majority vote and would implement the Competitive Wage Act for cabinet members and elected leaders, but also gives them retroactive payments dated back to January. Tenorio says hay pay raises will come primarily from the general fund for the compensation.

"The numbers are going to vary, depending on one when its implemented, the governor will be coming back shortly and we need to meet with him and the financial managers to look at when the implementation will actually occur and we're going to go retroactively but we also have to look at other variables, it's not just a simple well it's going to cost $5, but it will cost X but we don't know that X yet, but we'll get that answer to you," he said.

As for when the checks will go out, Tenorio says it will be "relatively soon." He adds it's the right time to improve the compensation level of those in leadership positions considering the government has already gone through the process of implementing it across the board whether it be through meritorious bonuses to public safety raises and retropay to tax refunds.
