Guam - At the University of Guam this afternoon the Guam Council of the Arts and Humanities presented Leonard Zahnen Iriarte the Master of Chamorro Chant. Iriarte is a self-taught researcher, scholar and artist. He founded the Chamorro Chant Group, I Fanlalai'an formerly called Guma' Palu Li'e in 1998.  As principal composer and instructor, the group's mission was to create chants as a traditional teaching tool and the preservation of old indigenous word. The Guam Masters Award was established to recognize master practitioners of Guam's traditional and folk arts.
