GEC gets $100K to make polling places more accessible
Guam - The Guam Election Commission is in receipt of a $100,000 grant to make polling places more accessible for individuals with disabilities.
GEC executive director Maria Pangelinan says the grant is part of the Help America Vote Act that was recently discovered by the GEC in its Fiscal Year 2009 budget.
She said, "We've had two teleconferences since I was notified last week so I've already talked with them already about what we currently do and could we use the funds to apply for what we currently do and the preliminary answer is yes, for example homebound voting, for example, what we do for voters with disabilities in terms of curbside possibly and also in terms of going to the hospital during election day."
The GEC has until September to use the funds or its returned to the U.S. Department of Treasury.
