Guam - Several southern residents from Umatac made the trip to Hagatna to testify in support of Bill 5, introduced by Senator Tommy Morrison, who is actually from the village.  The legislation would place the former F.Q. Sanchez Elementary School school facility under the jurisdiction of the Umatac Mayor's Office.

Senator Morrison said, "It's always known it's built into our hearts that belongs to us. F.Q. Sanchez - the name is scared to us we've all been a part of F.Q. Sanchez for many years."

The legislation received support from the Guam Preservation Trust. Likewise, Umatac Municipal Council vice chairperson Vera Topasna says use of the facility will be in line with the mayor's vision to implement something sustainable for the community. "We're open to discussion any possibility any initiative that first and foremost promotes the interest of our people in Umatac because it is where we live the impact will be felt first and foremost by the people of Umatac," said Topasna.

The Department of Education closed down the Umatac school as a cost-cutting measure.
